Stephanie Krzywonos (kriz – won – us) (she/her/hers) is a Xicana nonfiction writer currently crafting her first book, ICE FOLX, an intersectional memoir about grief, the living world, kinship with nonhumans, and finding rebirth through descent into the Antarctic underworld. It is forthcoming from Harper Books in 2025. She is a recipient of the Mae Fellowship, which supports women and non-binary debut authors; the Katharine Bakeless Nason Scholarship from Bread Loaf Environmental Writers’ Conference; a scholarship and residency from Hedgebrook; and a grant from Vermont Studio Center. Stephanie is earning her MFA from the Nonfiction Writing Program at the University of Iowa while teaching undergraduates. She is represented by Marya Spence at Janklow & Nesbit Associates.

After growing up near traces of glacial ghosts and finally meeting glaciers in Alaska, Stephanie spent almost three years total living in Antarctica over six polar summers and one long polar winter getting to know glaciers better, giving interpretive tours of 100-year-old Antarctic huts, leading day-trip expeditions, and most recently supervising the logistics department for the US Antarctic Program. She has written about her experiences on ‘the Ice’ for Emergence Magazine, Sierra Magazine, Ofrenda Magazine, The Willowherb Review, Kosmos Journal, The Dark Mountain Project, and more.
