Stephanie Krzywonos (kriz-wan-ess) (she/her) is a biracial Xicana writer who was born in California’s Central Valley and grew up near the shores of Lake Michigan. 

She is the author of the forthcoming hybrid memoir, THE BLUE HOURS: MY SUMMERS AND WINTERS IN ANTARCTICA, about the seven seasons she spent living and working in Antarctica and the extremes to which people are willing to go to find peace, which is forthcoming from Washington Square Press / Atria Books on December 1, 2026. 

Stephanie has a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and holds an MFA from the University of Iowa’s Nonfiction Writing Program. She is a recipient of the Mae Fellowship, which supported women and non-binary debut authors; the Katharine Bakeless Nason Scholarship from Bread Loaf Environmental Writers’ Conference; a scholarship and residency from Hedgebrook; and a grant from Vermont Studio Center. Her work has appeared in Emergence Magazine, Sierra, Dark Mountain, and more. She is represented by Marya Spence at Janklow & Nesbit Associates and lives in Iowa City, where she has taught creative nonfiction writing.
